Welcome to Florida!

We went to swim with the manatees very early in the morning on Wednesday March 9th. It was a very dark morning. Everyone was very, very tired and even the muffins and the oranges were not quite enough energy for four sleepy people. But, it was totally worth it, and after we got in the water we were not even that tired any more. Not me at least. Anyway, swimming with the manatees was awesome. The first manatee came up to me a lot because it liked me so much, (and we were only supposed to touch them, with one hand, if they do come up to us) and so I let it do what it wanted and floated by it. Really. The title was swimming with the manatees but it is really floating with the manatees. We float beside them, letting them make all the choices and watch as the beautiful creatures swim by.

After swimming with the manatees, we drove over to a surprise place. Universal Studios. I had know idea that this place even existed! It has rides and places, from the movies of Universal and that included Harry Potter. Now I don’t really know how much YOU like Harry Potter, but me and Lucy...LOVE IT! In one park, there is Diagon Alley, with everything that you could possibly dream of. There was even a fake kings cross station that had a train to another park with Hogsmeade and Hogwarts. We had butterbeer, chocolate frogs, and we even bought wands! At the tip of the wands we got, there is a little sensor. There are little spots all over the place with a camera, so that when you do a certain movement with your wand, something happens! Like, for one, you move your wand as if to make a small hill. And then water comes spilling out of a fountain. These little spots are all over the place. In Gringotts, the wizard in bank, there is a ride about escaping Gringotts in the last movie, with three d glasses that show you a movie along the way. On the train in the window and door of your compartment there are videos playing. In the window it is showing the fake scenery and whether outside. In the door, it is showing shadows of people as if they were really there. When you arrive at Hogsmeade and Hogwarts there are two more rides. One outside ride, called The Flight Of The Hipogriph is a really nice short ride, and another inside is a Hogwarts ride where, while riding, you watch a movie about playing Quidditch.
We also went on a couple other rides, one of my favourite being The Rocket.

While we were there, at the end of the day, there was an awesome Mardi Gras parade, where the people on the floats toss out bead necklaces. Lucy, Mamma’s cousin’s daughter Addison, and I each caught a big neck full of necklaces. In front of each float there were dressed up people in at least a meter tall stilts, dancing! I can’t even walk in tin can stilts. Others were walking around handing out Mardi Gras coins.

    1. Me and Lucy never even knew that such a thing existed intil we were told. I had also started realizing some rides and signs appearing along the way! When we found out, we were in awe for the rest of the day. 😀

    1. I finished reading the Deathly Hollows just in time. Me and Lucy had no idea what was coming so I’m glad I finished! And, me and Lucy both got robes for one of our birthdays and Mama secretly snuck them from out closets and brought them on the trip so that we would have them at Universal Studios. And when we bought out wands we found out that, just like in the books, they all had a different length. Mine (Hermione’s) is longer than Lucy’s (Lunas)

Cloudland Canyon State Park

On Wednesday night we headed over to Forest Gully Farms where we stayed one night, in wonderful houses built in side hills. I don’t know much about The Hobbit, but I do know that the houses that we stayed in looked like Hobbit houses. There at Forest Gully Farms we met a very nice man who showed us around. We went to see some of there chickens, because we were told that we could hold them. After I had chased chickens around for awhile I caught a beautiful black one. Right now, after Forest Gully Farms we are staying at a wonderful campsite where there are wonderful hiking trails. Cloudland Canyon State Park is wonderful! So far we have been hiking every day. On the first day we started with a small hike but then it got bigger. Before we started heading back, because I was already really tired, my mom saw another waterfall that she wanted to see. To get there, you needed to go down, and to go down, you needed to take the stairs. So we went down the, approximately five hundred sta

Swimming with the Manatees

Today was one of the the best activities of the trip so far. One of the very first things that we planned for this trip was to go swimming with the manatees, an activity that was first discovered by Miriam as she looked through one of our research books. Everyone has been looking forward to it for a long time, even though we had to get up pretty early in the morning. And it was worth it.        Mama’s alarm clock woke us at five-thirty , at which time we had to scramble into a bathing suit, grab our clothing, and go. Swimming with the manatees is best in the morning, which is why we had to leave early. We ate three hurried muffins in the car and arrived soon after. It was still pretty dark when we got to the building, so we just went in to wait for the manatee to start. Luckily, hot chocolate was provided.        Soon, a woman guided us and several other people into a room to watch a movie about how to behave on our tour. (Don’t touch the manatees unless they come to you,

The Actual, Real Hobbit

After Mammoth Caves, we camped for two nights in Nashville before moving on to a place that for Miriam and I was secret. We made seveural guesses as to where we were going, but none of them were exact. The closest one was one of mine- I guessed that the place we were staying was underground. Based on my mom and dad’s reactions, I thought that I might be close, but I did not know the full extent of it at all. We arrived at a place that at first looked normal. Two friendly dogs named Jedi and Trooper ran up to greet us, so I spent the first several minutes of our visit trying to figure out if it was possible to pet two dogs at once. The answer to that question, by the way, is no. Then we saw where we would be staying. You might remember that on my last post, I mentioned that if you’re a fan of The Hobbit you’d better read this one. And that’s because where we were staying literally looked like a series of hobbit holes. The first hole was the most like a hobbit hole-
